 Welcome to Livorno, a quiet village in northern Marisen. As far as communities go, there isn’t much that sets it apart; there are those who dream of reaching the stars, and those whose dreams look no further than tilling their land. As one would suspect of any town, it holds many different personalities and peculiarities. There is one thing that makes Livorno unique, however.
There are animals that hang around people, some call them "familiars", other call them inseparable; either way, almost everyone in Livorno has their own companion, and there are still more wandering the area surrounding the village. These creatures aren’t your normal beasts however; these creatures have…well, powers.
Their elements, as it may be better to call them, set these animals apart from anything else that traverses the earth. These elements, ranging from ice, to fire, to darkness, have created a unique culture in Livorno. They are used in the everyday lives of most of the villagers, but some have decided to specialize in these creatures, taking jobs at training and even capturing them for sale. No matter how you look at it, these elementals have shaped this isolated land, and have become an integral part of life for the Livornians.
Many of these elementals are kept as companions and assistants, but there is only one true match between a human and their familiar. Some people spend their entire lives searching for their partners, and never find them. Some happen upon each other by chance. Others may find each other through quests that force people to look within themselves, question their goals in life, and ultimately learn who they really are. The best bonds are between those who balance out each other's faults and allow them both to become self-actualized.
